Read: John 1:6-8, 19-28
Some people thought John the Baptist was the Messiah, the person they had been waiting on to rescue them from the Romans. Others thought he was Elijah the prophet, and others asked was he a prophet. They asked who he was, but John simply replied he was the one preparing the way for Jesus. This did not please the people who wanted to find out who or what gave John the authority to baptise people. John warned the people that he was baptising them with water, but that someone more important was coming – Jesus!

Heavenly Father, through this season of Advent, we prepare for our Christmas celebrations of the birth of your Son Jesus Christ.
In all the bust times help us to see the importance of your love for us. Show us new ways to share the message of your love for all people. We pray this in the name of Jesus, whose coming we eagerly await. Amen. (taken from Praying Together)
