Children Resource 21st May

Sunday 21st May 2023 – The Ascension

Read: Read Luke 24:44-53 – The Ascension

Jesus knew he would not be with his disciples on earth forever – he had to return to heaven to be with his father so he spent as much time as he could with them, explaining scripture to them, teaching them, telling them about the Holy Spirit and preparing them for life when he was in heaven. Ascension means the action of being raised to an important position or a higher level. On the day of his Ascension Jesus did both – Jesus didn’t die again, God took him straight up to heaven where he is today. Before he left Jesus told the disciples what they had to do next – they had to stay in the city until the Holy Spirit came, then they had to tell everyone the Good News of Jesus – something we should still do today.

What did Jesus talk to the disciples about before he left? Where did he go? How did he get there?

Where is Jesus now? What can we still do today?

Pray: Lord Jesus because you ascended to be with your Father in Heaven, we know that you have prepared a place there for us. Thank you for the promise of life with you in heaven that the Ascension promises us. Amen. (taken from Family Time)

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (taken from Praying Together)

Jesus asked us to share the Good News – each week in Church and Sunday School we get taught by wonderful leaders and ministers – can you think of something to say thank you to them for all they have taught you?
