Children’s Resource 18th June

Sunday 18th June 2022 – Jesus sends out the Twelve

Read: Read Matthew 9:35 -10:8

Jesus knew that eventually he would return to heaven to be with God and that he needed to prepare his disciples for this happening. It would not be an easy task. Jesus said the ‘the harvest is huge. But there are only a few workers.’ (Matthew 9:37) The disciples knew they would have to work hard but as always Jesus prepared them. He gave them the authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every illness and disease. Jesus explained they needed to preach the message ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ (Matthew 10:7) The people needed to be aware what was happening and that they should trust in Jesus as their saviour. Jesus finished by telling the disciples ‘you have received freely, so give freely.’ (Matthew 10:8) It was the disciples turn to give, just as Jesus had given to them.

Where is Jesus sending the disciples? What do they have to do? Do you think it would have been an easy task? What did Jesus tell them to say?

Jesus told the disciples to go and tell – this song encourages us to do the same.

Pray: Lord God, even now the harvest is huge but there may not be as many workers as needed. Help us to find a way to share your word and share the harvest. Amen

Father in heaven watch over our loved ones.
Keep them by your side.
May they be safe and peaceful, in you may they abide.
Give wisdom to the doctors and nurses too we pray,
renew their strength and bless them for the work they do each day. Send healing and restoration and let them feel your love.
May your Holy Spirit give them rest as gentle as a dove. Amen (taken from Praying Together)

Lots of missionary agencies tell people about God all around the world. Can you research what some of these organisations do? Is there a parish link within your church? (CMS Ireland, Bishops Appeal, Tearfund etc.)
